The Distal Femoral Nail may
be recommended for the intramedullary stabilisation of femoral
fractures, in which a retrograde approach is indicated, e.g.
for obese patients, for pregnant women: for ipsilateral fractures
of the femur and the patella as well as the femoral and tibial
diaphysis: for patients with implants in the proximal femoral
region and patients with existing TKR (depending on its design)
The significangly larger bearing surface provides optimised
load distribution, high purchase in osteoporotic bone and
a reduced risk of nail protrusion into the knee joint
Indications:
1. Supracondylar femoral fractures
2. Intercondylarfemoral fractures
3. Lower third diaphyseal femoral fractures
